Independent business acquisitions
Also Ventures
I’m Max Alcabes. I’m looking to buy and grow established service businesses across the West Coast. I grew my parents’ neighborhood furniture store in Seattle into a national online retailer and built a second business licensing our software. Today I run an entertainment marketing agency in Los Angeles.
01 / The search
What I’m
looking for.
I’m looking across Washington, Oregon and California for profitable service businesses with skilled teams and customers who call them back year after year.
Data center cooling is part of what drew me to water services and air balancing. I’m also interested in companies doing this work for hospitals, labs and commercial buildings.
Industrial water services
Water treatment, testing and ongoing maintenance for commercial and industrial facilities.
HVAC testing & balancing
Independent testing, adjusting and balancing (TAB) of air and water systems in buildings.
Critical environment testing
Testing and certification for cleanrooms, laboratories and other controlled environments.

What I’d bring to
your business.
My family’s furniture company, now called Sleepers in Seattle, is still based in West Seattle. I joined in 2007 and helped grow its online retail and software licensing businesses to $22 million in combined annual revenue. I hired the sales team and led the engineers who built our software.
In Oregon, I own commercial property that includes self-storage and a few small storefronts. My entertainment marketing agency, Also Digital, is based in Los Angeles and works with artists and record labels. I also run Pink Cloud Studios, a recording and podcast studio in LA.
My role would be to win customers, hire and support the team, and grow the business. I’d look to an experienced technical lead to run field operations. I’d start by spending time with the crew on jobs. Seeing how the work gets done and hearing what customers ask for would help me decide where to grow the business.

What to expect if we talk.
- 01
A first conversation
Tell me how you got started and what you’d like to do next. There’s nothing to prepare, and it’s fine if selling is still years away.
- 02
A closer look
If we both want to keep talking, we can sign a confidentiality agreement before reviewing financials and arrange a visit on your terms.
- 03
A transition that fits
You might want to retire after a handoff, stay involved or keep a stake in the company. I’m open to talking through each option. We’d work out the timing and terms together, with your team in mind.
04 / Get in touch
Let’s talk.
If you’re thinking about the future of your company, I’d be glad to hear from you. Your email comes straight to me, and I’ll keep our conversation private.
